Начиная с 2010 версии 3ds max, при первом запуске программы перед нами предстает интерфейс в темных тонах.

При этом читаемость иконок кому-то может показаться сомнительной по сравнению с привычным видом:
Загрузить светлую тему можно из меню Customize -> Load Custom UI Scheme…
Еще один способ загрузить «тему» – Customize -> Custom UI and Defaults Switcher. В этом окне перечислены темы для различных задач. Например, для рендеринга с VRay, если он установлен; тема VRay затрагивает настройки различных частей 3ds max, включая редактор материалов (все материалы в слотах станут VRayMtl) и окно настроек рендера (в качестве активного будет назначен V-Ray).
Тогда, если в Windows у вас включена определенная современная тема, она же будет применяться и к кнопкам 3ds max:
В той же вкладке Colors можно изменить и цвета отдельных частей интерфейса. Например, фоновый цвет вьюпорта можно задать здесь: в списке Elements выбрать Viewports и в списке ниже выделить строку Viewport Background, затем выбрать нужный цвет фона в стоке Color. Вслед за выбором цвета фона можно также задать соответствующий ему цвет сетки, для чего в списке Elements выбрать Grids. Сначала задаем сам цвет сетки: Set by color, а далее Set by intensity, чтобы параметром Intensity отрегулировать контраст мелких клеток по отношению к двум основным осям. Не забудьте нажать Apply Colors Now, чтобы увидеть результат вашего творчества. Сделанные цветовые настройки можно сохранить в файл: Customize -> Save Custom UI Scheme.
Также заслуживает внимания возможность установки многих часто используемых команд-кнопок на ленту инструментов (ribbon).

After doing so, its color appears to the right of the list; click the swatch to change the element's color.
The viewport elements Viewport Background Gradient Bottom and Viewport Background Gradient Top provide the colors for viewports with gradient backgrounds. This option is the default for Perspective viewports.
Scheme drop-down list Lets you choose whether the main UI colors are set to the default Windows colors or whether they can be customized. If Use Standard Windows Colors is active, all of the elements in the UI Appearance list are disabled, and you are unable to customize the UI colors.
To inherit the active Windows interface theme, such as Windows Aero, set Scheme to Use Windows Theme.
[UI appearance list] Displays all the elements in the user interface that can be changed. After you click an element, its color appears to the right of the list; click the swatch to change the element's color. Color Displays the color for the selected category and element. Click to display the Color Selector, where you can change the color. After choosing a new color, click Apply Colors Now to make the change in the interface. Reset Resets the color of the highlighted element to the value that was active when you opened the dialog. Intensity Sets a grayscale value for the display of the grid lines. 0 is black and 255 is white.
This control is available only when you choose the Set By Intensity option from the Grids element, and affects the intensity of the grid lines in the viewports.
Invert Inverts the grayscale value for the display of grid lines. Dark gray becomes light gray and vice-versa.

По умолчанию в качестве фонового цвета видовых экранов 3ds Max используется серый цвет (см. рис. 1.3–1.5 ). Если он вас устраивает, можете не изменять его.

Для изменения используемых по умолчанию цветов в соответствии с личными предпочтениями выполните следующие операции.
3. Выберите из раскрывающегося списка Elements элемент Viewports, а из расположенного ниже перечня — элемент Viewport Background ( рис. 1.6 ).
Это окно используется в 3ds Max повсеместно и позволяет установить цвет с помощью модели RGB (поля Red, Green и Blue) или же выбрать оттенок (поле и палитра Hue), а также насыщенность и яр кость цвета (поля Whiteness или Value ).
При этом значения в полях можно ввести вручную в виде числовых значений или же перетащить мышью бегу нок в требуемую позицию.
Белому цвету соответствует максимальное зна чение (255) в каждом из цветовых каналов согласно модели RGB или же нулевое значение в полях Sat и максимальное — в поле Value (значение поля Hue при максимальной яркости и нулевой насыщенности никак не влияет на результат).
5. Установив белый цвет, щелкните на кнопке OK диалогового окна Color Selector для его закрытия и возврата на вкладку Colors
По умолчанию выбранные геометрические объекты в некоторых режимах вы деляются на видовых экранах белым цветом, и следовательно будут сливаться с фоновым белым цветом.
Поэтому, не закрывая диалогового окна Customize User Interface, выберите в раскрывающемся списке Elements элемент Geometry , а в расположенном ниже перечне — элемент Selection.
С помощью диалогового окна Color Selector выберите для обозначения выделенных объектов какойлибо кон трастный цвет (например, красный).
Также можно выбрать в нижнем списке Scheme элемент Use Standard Windows Colors, чтобы окна 3ds Max отображались в стандартной цветовой гам ме Windows.
Завершив настройку цветовой гаммы, щелкните на кнопке Apply Color Now, которая находится в правой нижней части вкладки Colors диалогового окна Customize User Interface .
Закройте диалоговое окно Customize User Interface, нажав Esc или щелкнув на стандартной кнопке закрытия диалогового окна.
