After effects нет anchor point
3 Steps to moving the anchor point in After Effects.
We’ve all been there. You’ve designed the perfect After Effects composition, but you need to have your layer rotate around a different point. Or maybe you want your layer to scale down around a specific point so you can make your movement more balanced? What are you to do?
Well, simply put you need to move the anchor point.
What is the Anchor Point?
The anchor point in After Effects is the point in which all transformations are manipulated from. In a practical sense the anchor point is the point in which your layer will scale and rotate around. While it may seem silly to have an anchor point and a position transform property both of these parameters do very different things.
As good practice anchor points should be set before you begin animating your composition. So how are you supposed to move your anchor point? Well I’m glad you asked…
How to Move the Anchor Point
If you’ve ever tried moving the anchor point in the transform menu you were probably surprised to see that your layer moved around as well. Many new After Effects artists conclude that this must mean that Anchor Point and Position do the same thing, but this is simply not the case.
On most After Effects project it is not ideal to move your anchor point using the transform menu because doing so will physically move your layers position. Instead you will want to use the Pan-Behind Tool. Here’s how it’s done.
Pro Tip: Don’t set keyframes until you’ve moved your anchor point. You won’t be able to adjust your anchor point if you’ve set any transform keyframes.
STEP 1: ACTIVATE THE PAN-BEHIND TOOL
Activate the Pan-Behind Tool by hitting the (Y) key on your keyboard. You can also select the Pan-Behind Tool in the toolbar at the top of the After Effects interface.
STEP 2: MOVE THE ANCHOR POINT
The next step is simple. With the Pan-Behind Tool selected move your Anchor Point to your desired location. If you have your transform menu open you will see the anchor point values automatically update as you move your anchor point around the composition.
STEP 3: DESELECT THE PAN-BEHIND TOOL
After you’ve moved your Anchor Point to the desired location simply select your Selection Tool by hitting (V) on your keyboard or select it from the toolbar at the top of the interface.
That’s it! On most After Effects projects you will be adjusting the Anchor Point for 70% of your layers, so it’s important that you get used to this workflow.
Anchor Point Tips
1. CENTER THE ANCHOR POINT ON A LAYER
By default your anchor point will be at the very center of your layer, but if you’ve moved your anchor point already and want to revert back to the original center location all you have to do is hit the following keyboard shortcut:
- Mac: Command+Option+Home
- PC: Ctrl+Alt+Home
2. MOVE THE ANCHOR POINT IN STRAIGHT LINES
You can actually move the anchor point perfectly along the X or Y Axis by holding down Shift and moving the anchor point with the Pan-Behind Tool selected. This is a great way to insure that your anchor point is in the pixel-perfect location.
3. ACTIVATE THOSE ANCHOR POINT GUIDES
Need your Anchor Point to be directly in line with an object in your composition. Well the best way to do that is simply by holding down Control on a PC or Command on a Mac. As you drag your anchor point around with the Pan-Behind Tool you will find that your anchor point will snap to illuminated crosshairs in your composition.

My anchor points for 3d objects are not visible. The only visible anchor points, are the ones that drag the entire layer. I don't want to have to move my object by manipulating the anchor point numbers. I know its possible to move it on the object itself, cause I have been doing so in the past, but all of a sudden it drags the whole layer. I also can't use the Pan Behind Anchor Point Tool with the shortcut y, since there is no anchor point that I could actually move or position (except the one dragging the whole entire layer). Does anybody have answers to this? Its driving me crazy.
I appreciate any kind of help.

If you have not hidden your layer controls then something else may be going on. I've seen anchor points that were hard to see, but as long as the view options for the Comp panel are properly setup I've always been able to see them.
System specs and version of AE down to the last decimal point may help us help you. A full size screen shot with the layer you are having problems with in view and the modified properties of the layer revealed by pressing the U key twice will help us help you. Without that my best guess is that you have hidden layer controls or the anchor points are way out of position.

there is only one anchor point for a layer. it's only a matter of which tool you choose move it. you are supposed to see this when the layer is selected:
if you are selecting a layer and not seeing any handles or anchor point then go to view->show layer controls
when you want to move the anchor point click the anchor point tool or Y and drag it.

- anchor point and bounding box no longer show up in.

I just updated after effects (2017.2 release - 14.2.1.34) and I'm noticing that I no longer see the anchor point and bounding box in the layers, the mask and shape toggle are active and responsive as i can see the masks but I can't see the anchor point or the bounding points of any layer. it briefly comes up when I press Y and drag around in the comp but I can't change it's position. The only way I can change the position of the anchor point is by double clicking on the layer to open it and there the anchor point shows up like usual, but in the comp view the anchor and bounding box no longer show. Is there a setting that changes??

see video of how the anchor point and ounding points are not showing, only for a sporadic moment when I press Y and drag the layer on the screen, only for it to go away before I can select it.
please take a look and let me know. thank you so much,

also, i just noticed that it seems to be project-based as my other projects and new projects do not show this behavior. Seems like it might be a setting within the project then?
If so, did I press something? is there a way to revert it back?

interesting. can't see what can cause this since project settings won't control these type of things. you can access the project settings by going to file->project settings. can you strip down all the assets from the project and create a fresh comp with a solid and see if that still persists? if it does can you upload the project so I may test it?

I tried making a new comp in this project threw in a solid and still no anchor point. I tried opening a new project to import the comps from the old but it didn't work as now all my new projects are coming up with the same issue, even though last night when I tried making a new project it had worked.
here is the link for the project in question but now all my new projects have the same issue

Sure. I figured view options was the case before but wasn't really sure this is the behavior. next time a user won't have to upload 1 GB of project for me to spot it.
